STEUBENVILLE - Retired Steubenville City School Administrator Joe Nocera has been named Wells Academy principal for the remainder of the current school year.

Nocera will replace Margie Radakovich, who died last week after a brief illness.

Nocera had retired last year but was returned to the Wells Academy during a brief special board of education meeting Wednesday evening.

He is a 37-year veteran of the city school system and had served as a principal at McKinley, Roosevelt, Buena Vista and, most recently, at the Wells Academy.

Nocera currently served as a part-time director of publications and communications for the city school district.

"Mr. Nocera is familiar with most of the staff and students at Wells Academy since he retired from his principal's position at the school less than one year ago. He was a logical choice to finish the school year at Wells Academy," said acting Superintendent Rich Ranallo.

"During her career Mrs. Radakovich served as a reading and math teacher at Harding Middle School, dean of girls, principal of McKinley, Roosevelt, East Garfield and the Wells Academy. She most recently served as a Success for All coach for the district and was instrumental in implementing the SFA program in the city schools. Over time Mrs. Radakovich served more than 7,500 students during her tenure," according to school board President Ruth Ann Bruzzese.

In other business during the special meeting, the school board approved a resolution to issue a Qualified Zone Academy Bond for renovations to city school facilities.

The board also approved Jason Kernahan to serve as head track coach at Steubenville High School.

Ranallo said Angelita Forte has requested to be moved from head track coach to assistant track coach.
