C. Ralph ‘Bud’ Pierce

PIERCE, C. Ralph "Bud," 91, of Follansbee, WV, formerly of Mingo Junction, OH, passed away Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, at Valley Hospice Care Center North in Steubenville, OH.

He was born Sept. 2, 1922. in Wellston, OH, a son of the late Cecil N. and Ruth (Collins) Pierce.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William N. Pierce.

Ralph has been a resident of the Steubenville- Mingo Junction area since 1923. He graduated from Mingo High School in 1941. In 1942, he served his country in the U.S. Army during W.W.II. Upon his discharge he was employed by Weirton Steel Corporation in Weirton, WV as a pipe coverer/ insulator for 40 years. He retired from National Steel in 1981.

He was a devoted member of the Finley United Methodist Church in Steubenville, where he had served as Treasurer of the Board of Trustees and also as a member of the administrative board.

Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Violet M. (Gilreath) Pierce, whom he married Nov. 3, 1942; a son, D. Keith (Clara) Pierce of Follansbee, WV; a daughter, Carol L. (Patrick) Burchfield, of Steubenville, OH; four grandchildren, Timothy (Jennifer) Pierce of Weirton, WV, W. Tod (Tina) Burchfield of Steubenville, OH, Heidi Burchfield of Tennessee and Heather M. Trumbull of Steubenville, OH; 10 great-grandchildren, Patrick and Brandon Keiski, Dustin and Sage Trumbull, Rylee, Ty, Emme and Ali Pierce, Cierra Burchfield, and Casey Burchfield; two sister-in-laws, Marlene (Dennis) Stephens of Belpre, OH and Thelma (Ivan) Mallett of Longwood, FL; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 101 Longview Ave., Mingo Junction, on Wednesday from 2-8 p.m. and also on Thursday from 10 until the time of his funeral services at 11 a.m. with Pastor Jerry Ernst, officiating. Interment will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Mingo.
