The Harrison County 4-H Horse Committee continues to offer its series of educational programs aimed at providing detailed instruction on key issues associated with owning and showing horses.

The second program, "Halter and Showmanship: Showcasing Your Horse and Interpreting Patterns," will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday in the classroom at the Harrison Community Hospital.

The program will feature an American Quarterhorse Association DVD, a review of various showmanship patterns and a discussion led by advisers. The programs are free to Harrison County 4-H and FFA youth with horse projects. Adults, out-of-county youth and others interested in horse health, safety and performance are invited to attend with donations accepted.

Light refreshments and door prizes are provided at each event. Those planning to attend should RSVP to Tim Tanner at the OSU-extension office at (740) 942-8823.

Other programs scheduled include:

March 23, 4 p.m.: "Equine Health and Communicable Diseases" by Dr. Tony Forshey, state veterinarian from the Ohio Department of Agriculture;

April 27, 4 p.m.: "What Your 4-H Judge is Looking For and Common Rulebook Issues," presented by an Ohio 4-H Judge; and

May 25: "How to Properly Fit and Care For Tack." A presenter is to be determined.

Weather permitting, this program will be held at the fairgrounds.

The committee also will host its second-annual tack swap on May 3 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the junior fair building at the Harrison County Fairgrounds. Spaces are $10 each and can be obtained by contacting Sherri VanTassel at (740) 546-4706.
