'Jumble Sale' donations sought by

Wheeling Civic Garden Center

The Wheeling Civic Garden Center, Oglebay Park, is requesting donations of items for its annual "Jumble Sale," an indoor yard sale set for March 21-23.

The center is seeking donations of jewelry, books, kitchen articles, odd dishes and glasses, games and puzzles, tools, and odds and ends.

Items can be brought to the garden center through March 17.

"If you have a ton of items to donate, call the garden center at (304) 242-0665, and they will be happy to help you," a news release notes.

The sale benefits the garden center, a nonprofit cultural and educational organization.

Tri-State Marine Corps Club

Auxiliary holds meeting

The Weirton-based Tri-State Marine Corps Club Auxiliary held met Feb. 10 with President Joan Spano presiding.

Chaplain Mary Ann Smith gave the invocation and read scripture. Marcy Spano read the devotions and "Prayers to Soothe Your Soul." The group held special prayers for numerous individuals.

Vice President Darlene Kemp led in opening ceremonies.

Shirley Brecht read a thank-you note from 20 military members stationed in Afghanistan, as well as notes from Air Force Master Sgt. David M. Lake, stationed in Afghanistan, and servicewoman Heather Manzies, also stationed in Afghanistan. Barboursville Veterans Home staff sent Joan Spano a list of the residents' birthdays.

Sunshine Chair Mary Ann Elliott reported on cards sent.

Joan Spano sent five birthday cards to Barboursville Veterans Home residents for February. Joan Spano, Marcy Spano and Tina Spano created more than 400 Valentine cards to be sent to active-duty military members.

In March and April, members will collect healthy snacks for the troops. Members are encouraged to bring them to the next two meetings. The group welcomes donations from the public. The snacks will be sent to the troops through Boatsie's Boxes. Joan Spano sent the auxiliary's adopted veteran Wayne Kemp a Valentine card with a Marine emblem key chain.

The club picnic will Aug. 10 at the New Cumberland park. The auxiliary plans to present Kemp with an afghan made by Marge Porchiran.

Mary Ann Smith won the 50/50 and donated back to the treasury.

Shirley Brecht and Marcy Spano served the refreshments.

The next meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. March 10. Marcy Spano will serve refreshments.

Harrisville Fire Hall to host

Friday fish fries starting Feb. 28

The Harrisville Fire Hall will be the site of Friday fish fries every Friday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Feb. 28 through April 18, according to Pam Kinsey, president of the Harrisville Volunteer Firemen Ladies Auxiliary.

There also will be a fish fry on Ash Wednesday, March 5, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

There will be a bake sale on April 18.
