Tavern emphasized but Italian standards still mainstay at Scaffidi's

STEUBENVILLE - If you're looking for somewhere to have a nice dinner, drinks and socialize with friends, Scaffidi's Restaurant & Tavern is the place to be.

Formerly Scaffidi's Pasta, the business now operates under the title Scaffidi's Restaurant & Tavern.

The family owned-and-operated restaurant has been in business for four years, since October 2009. It moved to its current location, 350 S. Hollywood Blvd., in August 2011.

General Manager Frankie DiCarlantonio said the restaurant still will be the same Italian restaurant it has been from day one.

"We are still going to serve all the same pasta dishes that we have since the beginning," he stated. "However, now we are venturing out and adding some diverse items to the menu, including new meat dishes, burgers, etc."

The new menu items include a gyro platter, lamb meat accompanied with bruschetta mix, feta cheese and Tzatziki sauce with a side of fries; the all-American cheeseburger, hand-tossed 100 percent ground beef served with lettuce, tomato, onion and pickle as well as a side of fries; bruschetta burger, hand-tossed 100 percent ground beef on toasted Italian bread topped with signature bruschetta mix, feta cheese and a balsamic glaze; the Mount Vesuvius, juicy roast beef piled on a heaping mound of choice of mashed potatoes or french fries; mussels

for two, large steam-cooked mussel platter with sliced sausage sauteed in a reduced marinara sauce; and smothered riesling chicken, grilled chicken smothered in homemade Riesling wine cream sauce and mushrooms.

The bar area of the restaurant also recently received a face-lift.

"New additions to the tavern area of the facility include hightop tables, booths and two 70-inch televisions," owner Nino Scaffidi explained.

"We have new contemporary decor and now have four televisions so people are able to watch multiple games at once.

"We want to be known as a nice, modern looking establishment that is a good place to eat, have a nice dinner and socialize with friends. It is a pleasant and hospitable environment.

"We want our guests to feel like a part of the family."

Nino's wife, Dawn, is co-owner of the restaurant.

Food and drinks now will be served late night in the tavern, DiCarlantonio noted. The new hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays; 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays; and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays. The bar will stay open until 2:30 a.m.

"We will offer a new drink menu with a number of frozen drink spe-

cialties and sangrias," he added. "Happy hour is now also offered Monday throughout Thursday from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m."

"It is a friendly atmosphere, lots of parking and anyone at any age can feel comfortable coming here for a night out," Scaffidi added.

The restaurant offers catering as well as party rooms for luncheons, showers or small wedding receptions, DiCarlantonio noted.

Off-site catering and to-go orders also are available.
