Edison beats Oak Glen for third win in a row

NEW MANCHESTER - The Edison basketball team won a road game on Friday with a 58-53 victory over host Oak Glen.

It was the third win in a row for the Wildcats and fourth in their last five outings.

Edison overcame a 26-24 deficit at halftime with a 20-8 showing in the third period to carry a 44-34 victory into the final eight minutes.

Dylan Jones paced the winners with 17 points.

Brennan Smith scored a game-high 19 for Oak Glen, while Bub Haddox added 10. The Golden Bears visit Southern Local on Tuesday and John Marshall on Thursday.

Edison (9-12) visits Weir High on Monday before beginning sectional activity.

Huskies cruise to a victory

GLEN DALE - The Harrison Central boys basketball team had a 31-19 lead over host John Marshall at halftime and cruised to a 57-31 win on Friday.

Dustin Redish scored 14 and Cory Yoho 10 for the Huskies, who meet Barnesville at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Meadowbrook High in the Division III sectionals.

Trail chops Creek

LORE CITY - The Buckeye Trail boys basketball team outscored visiting Indian Creek 12-5 in the third period for a 43-24 lead and finished with a 62-36 victory on Friday.

The Redskins (10-10) meet Carrollton at 6 p.m. Wednesday in Zanesville as sectional play begins. Johnny Haught led Indian Creek with 13 points.

Panthers edge Toronto

TORONTO - The Toronto boys basketball team kept Buckeye Local standout Brennan Czuchran in check for 24 minutes.

Czuchran took over in the final eight minutes.

He scored 17 of his team-high 30 points in the fourth quarter as the Panthers defeated host Toronto, 72-65, Friday.

Czuchran hit three huge treys and went 8-for-10 from the free throw line as Buckeye Local overcame a 54-49 deficit entering the final period. Ryan Moffo added 18 points and Dylan Dokes 17 for the winners.

Toronto's Blaze Glenn led all scorers with 37 points. Nate Stewart added 11.

The Red Knights host Bishop Donahue on Tuesday, visit Cameron Wednesday and begin sectional play with an 8 p.m. contest on Friday with Frontier at new Philadelphia.

Buckeye Local begins sectional action Feb. 25 when it takes on West Holmes at 6 p.m. at Zanesville.

BARNESVILLE - The Barnesville boys basketball team had a 15-point halftime lead and sailed to an 81-59 victory over visiting Weir High on Friday.

Mike Curtis led the Red Riders with 19 points. Chris Wood added 15.
