Pancake breakfast at Holy Family

The Knights of Columbus St. John Neumann Council No. 11828 will host a pancake breakfast at Holy Family Church, Malara Hall, Steubenville, after the Masses on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Proceeds benefit the Urban Underground youth pilgrimage to Our Lady of Lebanon Shrine in North Jackson, Ohio.

Breakfast cost is $6 for adults, $3 for children and $25 for families.

Church to hold sandwich sale

Christ Episcopal Church, at 1014 Main St., Wellsburg, will be selling roast beef sandwich lunches from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday.

The cost is $6.50, which includes sandwich, chips, beverage and a slice of mandarin orange sheet cake. Individual sandwiches are $4.50 each. Take-out and delivery, to local businesses and shut-ins, is available by calling (304) 737-3432 after 8:30 a.m. that day.

Gyro sale scheduled Tuesday

The Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Philoptochos Society will have its next gyro sale from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the church located at 300 S. Fourth St., Steubenville.

The gyro sells for $6 each and the koulourakia (twist cookie) is $5 per dozen.

There is free delivery for order of four gyros or more. There will be a 25 cent charge for extra tzatziki sauce. Orders can be phoned in to (740) 282-9835 or fax to (740) 282-2091. Patrons should allow a minimum of 20 minutes for phone-in and fax orders.

Walk-ins also are welcome.

Ham dinner at Weirton church

St. Thomas Episcopal Church will hold a ham dinner from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Feb. 21 at the church located on Three Springs Drive, Weirton.

Dinner includes ham, scalloped potatoes, green beans, applesauce and bread and butter and coffee and tea. The cost is $8. Soda or bottled water is available for $1 and dessert is 50 cents.

Fish dinners set during Lent

St. Thomas Episcopal Church will hold fish dinners from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. March 7, 14, 21 and 28 and April 4, 11 and 18 at the church located at Three Springs Drive, Weirton.

The meal includes fish, French fries, cole slaw and coffee and tea. The cost is $8. Soda or bottled water is available for $1, and dessert is 50 cent.

Take-out will be available.

Valentine dinner at Sugar Grove UMC

Mark your calendar for Feb. 15.

There will be a Valentine Dinner that day at the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church, beginning at 5 p.m., according to Pastor James Willson.

Food and entertainment will be provided. This event is open to the public.

Those interested in attending should RSVP by Thursday by calling either (740) 544-5037 or (740) 544-5992. "Please leave a message if an answering machine picks up the call," Willson said.

Sugar Grove UMC church is located on county Road 68, to the right at the top off of state Route 152 out of Empire.

Hammondsville UMC sets winter picnic

Hammondsville United Methodist Church's winter picnic will be held Sunday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Saline Township Complex in Hammondsville.

The public is invited to the covered-dish event.

Concert to feature Brian Herrington

Brian Herrington will be featured in concert at 7 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church, located at Sixth and Main streets in Toronto.

Masonic lodge plans benefit dinner

The Unionport Masonic Lodge No. 333 located on county Road 39, Unionport, will hold a benefit spaghetti dinner on Feb. 22 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The menu will include spaghetti and meat sauce, salad, bread and butter, cake and ice cream.

Carryout will be available.

All proceeds will benefit the The Children's Dyslexia Center at the Masonic Temple located at 227 N. Fourth St., Steubenville. The center provides reading remediation for those children who learn differently because of dyslexia. The group also provides Orton-Gillingham training for teachers and other qualified people. The tutor-training program is internationally accredited. Pilot training programs also are available to any interested school district, a spokesperson explained.

Ash Wednesday luncheon planned

Zion United Church of Christ, 139 N. Fifth St., Steubenville, will host a soup and sandwich luncheon on Ash Wednesday, March 5, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The menu will feature a choice of homemade3 beef vegetable soup or potato soup, $2; choice of chipped ham barbecue or egg salad sandwiches, $2; Jell-O salad and dessert, $1; and coffee, tea, bottled water or pop, 50 cents.

Patrons can dine in or get takeout.

Advance orders can be placed by calling (740) 282-1793. The sanctuary will be open from noon to 12:30 p.m. with meditational music being played.
