Bill Ferenci

FERENCI, Bill, 92, of Sandusky, Ohio died January 31, 2014 at the Ohio Veterans Home.

Born June 6, 1921 in Lorain, Ohio he was the son of Joseph and Rose (Palogyi) Ferenci.

Bill enlisted in the Army in 1942 and was honorably discharged in 1945. During his time of service to his country, Bill was one of the first Americans to see active combat in the European theater of WWII. These brave men were known as "Darby Rangers" and were part of the First Ranger Battalion. Bill received a Purple Heart and seven bronze stars during his tour of duty. He remained a proud member of the Ranger Battalions Association of WWII.

Bill enjoyed hunting for deer, rabbits, and squirrels, and loved to fish, at one time catching the record bass for the State of Ohio. He also loved to bowl, participated in many leagues, and bowled several perfect games throughout his lifetime. Bill loved to golf and was a member of Pebble Creek Golf Club.

Surviving are his daughter, Sandra Kay (Thomas) Hammond and granddaughter, Heather Rene Hammond, both of Lady Lake, FL.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife of over 59 years, Elizabeth (Brode) Ferenci, who died October 18, 2004; brother, Joseph Ferenci; and sister, Elizabeth Vancas.
