Good Neighbors thank all who helped

The Herald-Star

To the editor:

I would like to thank all of the Wintersville-area "friends" who wonderfully helped in any way to make our 2013 Christmas program in Wintersville a huge success.

From 1959, when our founder, Ruth Cunningham, organized a small group of school teachers to donate their time and money to help some needy children in the Wintersville school, our program has grown to where dozens of concerned citizens from our churches, schools, businesses, civic organizations, social clubs and just those who wanted to help made it possible for 75 families with 162 children to have a very merry Christmas.

Special thanks to the Wintersville United Methodist Church for the use of its beautiful facility to sort, pack and distribute the food and toys to our families.

Our sincere thanks to our toy coordinator, Kitty Ferguson, who spends countless days and hours directing, organizing and wrapping the many toys for the children in the Christmas program.

A job well done by Manager Sara Bell and employee Brenda Boyd of the Wintersville Kroger, who organized our food order in a correct and timely fashion.

A very special thanks to the students at Wintersville Elementary School under the direction of Principal Nichole McDonald, and the Indian Creek High School Key Club and adviser Julie Robinson who collected, delivered and sorted several thousand canned goods for our Christmas boxes.

A heart-felt thanks for those who helped with monetary donations, food, toys or unselfish labor to make all of this happen: our special friends and supporters Fred and Marijo Young; as always, Sis Brannon, who works all year to collect a large assortment of toys for our program; Deborah Oberman of Toys for Tots for a large donation of new toys; William Davis of SPM Fleet for the use of his box truck in transporting food; our faithful delivery team headed up by Ken Cornish, who is a 34-year veteran of the program; to the businesses that provided room for our toy drop-off boxes - Wintersville Kroger, Big Lots, Dollar General and Wintersville Riesbeck's, which also provided our packing boxes; Wintersville United Methodist Church Youth Group; Wintersville United Methodist Women; Wintersville United Methodist Men; Wintersville Junior-Senior Sunday School; Starkdale Presbyterian Church; Wintersville Womens Club and ADK Sorority.

Special thanks for our faithful, major donors: our secret Santa; Wintersville Fire and Rescue; Wintersville Elementary PTO; Wintersville American Legion Post 557; Word of Life Fellowship; Sherry Eddy, manager of the Bantam Ridge Smith Oil; Wintersville Womens Club; Dan Daily Insurance; Centria; Mary Key Schultz; Kathy Corabi; Glen and Stacy Zink; Jim and Dianne Slater; Opal Hoover and Jill and Gary Wickham.

May God bless you for the new year.
