The Hancock County Animal Shelter Foundation has been awarded a $5,000 grant for shelter operations through the Petco Foundation/Ellen Degeneres Holiday Wishes competition.

Shelter volunteers submitted the entry, "Circle of Love," about the adoption of an injured dog named. Lieutenant Dan which arrived at the shelter in January 2013 with a broken leg and was kenneled next to a lost dog named Jasper.

When Shona Moore and her family were reunited with Jasper, she noticed Lieutenant Dan. She felt a connection, after having been in a body cast for several months following a car accident.
