Commissioners also voted to keep the weekly meetings at 9 a.m. on Thursdays.

Graham said there were a lot of issues, both personnel and projects, that have to be worked on from last year and commended Gentile for his leadership. Graham said he believes the three commissioners make a good team.

"We all have unique experiences that we bring to the commissioners' office, business wise and different areas of experience," he said.

Maple said there was a lot of activity with the board in 2013, more so than in previous years.

"When you look back with what we had to deal with ... not always because we wanted to but because it needed to be dealt with. It takes a team approach and I want to thank Commissioner Gentile for leading that team," Maple said.

"We all three have strengths and we are able to play on each other's skills and expertise to the point, I hope, that the rest of Jefferson County sees as a board that operates as a business entity that has the best interest of the citizens in mind," he added.

Gentile agreed that 2013 was a challenging year, with projects that required a lot of attention. Those projects included work at the county airport and water and sewer projects throughout the county.

"It was a challenging but rewarding year," Gentile said.

"It was a privilege to work with my two fellow commissioners. They bring diverse backgrounds to the office and make excellent choices based on their backgrounds. We had a lot thrown at us and we made some good decisions. We seem to work together well and have the same agenda for Jefferson County," Gentile said.

Commissioners also reappointed buildings and grounds workers and employees at the animal shelter and water and sewer department.
