HAMMONDSVILLE The Edison Local Board of Education met Tuesday and heard the first reading of a resolution considering the question of asking voters to approve a levy this May.

A five-year, 5.9-mill levy will be back on the May 6 ballot, according to district superintendent Bill Beattie. Edison's most recent attempt to pass a levy failed by a narrow margin in November.

School board meetings in 2014 are slated to be held on the third Thursday of each month at 7 p.m., and the location will rotate among schools.

Also new this year is a pay cut for board members.

Each member was previously making $125 per meeting, but board members voted to reduce that amount to $100 per meeting.

The board agreed to keep President Scott Lockhart, and Tracy Wright was appointed vice president. Lockhart and Warner Sanders will serve as delegates to the Ohio School Boards Association Annual Conference later this year, and John Prokopakis was elected as a representative to the Jefferson County Joint Vocational School for a three-year term.

The board's next meeting will take place at 7 p.m. Jan. 23 at the district office. A vacant position on the board is expected to be filled at that meeting.
