Weir gets first win

BURGETTSTOWN, Pa. - Chris Wood and Marcus Smith each scored 16 points to propel Weir High to its first win of the season. The Red Riders nipped Burgettstown, 56-52, on the road Saturday night.

Freshman Cody Enrietti had seven points and Kamari Washington scored six points for Weir (1-4), which led 15-5 after the first quarter and 33-19 at halftime.

Burgettstown dropped to 2-7.

The Red Riders face Steubenville at home on Tuesday.

RICHMOND - Mytia Barker led Big Red with 14 points as it rolled to a 67-37 win over Edison on Saturday.

Abby Taylor scored nine points, all 3-pointers, while Hannah Masloski and Taylor Young each scored seven points.

Edison, which led 11-9 after the first quarter, was paced by Katelyn Pollock's 12 points. Kayli Stewart added 11 points for the Wildcats and Abby Fonow had eight.

Steubenville, which remains undefeated, led 25-18 at halftime and scored 42 second half points.

Big Red plays at Brooke on Monday, while Edison plays at Oak Glen.

St. Clairsville stops Creek

ST. CLAIRSVILLE - Michael Scarnecchia scored a game-high 14 points to lead St. Clairsville over Indian Creek on Saturday.

Patrick Buchanan and Jared Derosa added eight points for St. Clairsville.

Johnny Haught led Indian Creek with eight points. Cody Durbin scored seven points and Jonathon Woodbury added five.

The Redskins are back in action on Tuesday, hosting Brooke.

Toronto clipped by Cameron

TORONTO - Ryan Clutter scored 16 points in the fourth quarter, and 27 of his career high 31 in the second half, to lead Cameron over Toronto on Saturday night.

Logan Routt added 15 points and Zach Hall scored eight for the Dragons (4-3), who have won three-straight.

For Toronto (4-4), Blaze Glenn led with 18 points and Nate Stewart added 10. Derek Lawrence and Hank Clegg each scored seven points.

The Red Knights led 32-23 at halftime, but managed just 14 second half points. They were outscored 20-6 in the fourth quarter.

Toronto plays Catholic Central on Wednesday.

Edison wrestlers fare well

NELSONVILLE - At the Nelsonville-York tournament on Saturday afternoon, the Edison wrestling team place eighth out of 16 teams. The Wildcats totaled 163 points.

Placing for Edison were Josh Kleiner (sixth place at 106 pounds), Mark Johns (seventh at 113), Brandon Logan (third at 120), Lane Weaver (seventh at 126), Nick Fisher (seventh at 145), Laine Caid (fifth at 152), Michael Wells (eighth at 160) and Mitchell Wells (second at 182).

The Wildcats return to the mat Saturday at Martins Ferry.

Local champs in Shadyside

SHADYSIDE - At the Last Man Standing wrestling tournament in Shadyside on Saturday, three local participants placed first overall in their respective weight class.

At 120 pounds, Toronto's Donnie Starkey won by injury default over Shadyside's Josh Kahl. At 170 pounds, Steubenville Catholic Central's Leo Hermann pinned Brad Tomolonis of Bridgeport in 1:09.

At 285 pounds, Preston Wise of Brooke pinned Justin Kilburn of Monroe Central in 2:41.

Shadyside led the overall standings with 164 points. Harrison Central placed fourth overall with 127.5 points.

Individually, Brandon White (113), David Forrester (126), Hunter Pizzino (132) and Anthony Risley (138), all Huskies, placed second in their respective weight classes.

With 127 points, Steubenville Catholic Central placed fifth, Toronto had 97 points for seventh and Brooke tallied 71 points for 10th place.
