MLK Memorial Mass Choir to practice

The Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Mass Choir will rehearse at 6 p.m. on Saturday at Quinn Memorial AME Church in Steubenville.

The rehearsal is for the upcoming MLK musical on Jan. 11 and the MLK ecumenical services set for Jan. 18, according to Delores Wiggins, minister of music.

Anyone interested in joining the choir can attend the rehearsal, said Wiggins, who can be contacted at (740) 512-0471.

Country Friends to host Eldurays

The Country Friends will host the Eldurays on Saturday at Memorial Hall located at 67 Old Police Lodge Road, Colliers.

The doors open at 6 p.m., and the dance starts at 7 p.m.

Country Friends holds covered-dish dinners and open mic nights every Monday and Friday. The doors open at 4 p.m., the meal begins at 5 p.m. and open mic begins at 6 p.m.

Country Friends Foundation Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting Christian friendship and brotherly love through music.

United Way report luncheon set

All campaign volunteers and United Way supporters are reminded that the United Way of Jefferson County will hold a report luncheon at noon on Wednesday at Holy Trinity's Hellenic Hall located at 300 S. Fourth St., Steubenville.

Cost is $10 per person.

Those planning to attend should RSVP by today by contacting the United Way office by phone at (740) 284-9000; by fax at (740) 283-2103; or by e-mail at unitedway@unitedway-jc.org.

Checks can be made payable to the United Way of Jefferson County and mailed to the United Way at P.O. Box 1463, Steubenville, OH 43952.

"Please join us in celebrating our success to date and keep the momentum rolling," a spokesperson said.

Library branch programs detailed

The following programs have been announced by the Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County:

Story hours set in Follansbee

The Follansbee Library will hold story hours for children ages 2-5 and their caregivers at noon Jan. 6, 13 and 27.

They include a story, snack, craft and other activities. To register for the free programs, call (304) 527-0860.

Free KidneySmart classes offered

Free KidneySmart classes will be offered at the new DaVita Dialysis Center located at 1799 Sinclair Ave., Steubenville.

They will be held on the last Thursday of the month, from January through June, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the conference room.

There is free parking.

"The classes are free, community-based education and information about your kidneys," a spokesperson said. "Learn how your kidneys function, recognize early signs of kidney disease, ways to better manage your diet and health and also learn about treatment options if or when diagnosed with chronic kidney disease," the spokesperson said.
