Merry Christmas

December 25, 2013
The Herald-Star
The Rev. Calvin McLoyd Jr., pastor of Second Baptist Church at 717 Adams St., Steubenville, reviews the Christmas story in the New Testament as Christians around the world today are celebrating the birth of the Christ child, the birth of a Savior, that took place more than 2,000 years ago in Bethlehem. Poinsettias, such as the one next to McLoyd, are identified as a flower of the season, as the shape of the poinsettia flower and leaves are sometimes thought as a symbol of the star of Bethlehem that led the Wise Men to the baby in the manger. Red leaves leaves symbolize the blood of Christ, and white, his purity. -- Janice R. Kiaski
