Helping out

December 21, 2013
The Herald-Star
Born Elder, from left, and Dakota Goff, Jared Norris, Kasey Peterson, Austin Whitehurst and Dylan Ribar of Steubenville Big Red’s Key Club helped Friday morning to unload more than 5,800 cans of food and dried goods at the Steubenville Salvation Army. Under the direction of Ross Ivkovich, Key Club faculty adviser, the students collected the items during the past three weeks. According to Lorraine Linton, kettle coordinator, students from Big Red have been collecting food during the holiday season for the Salvation Army for at least 29 years, and the need seems to increase every year. “People who used to donate are now asking for assistance,” Linton said. About 20 students also rang bells and manned the kettles Thursday evening at Wal-Mart. -- Shae Dalrymple
