STEUBENVILLE - The Jefferson County Community Action Council board of trustees on Wednesday approved a succession policy for the agency,

If CAC Chief Executive Officer Barb West is unavailable to sign official documents or take other official action, the line of succession will proceed to Operations Manager Eliza Kelley, then Chief Financial Officer Patricia Minto followed by the trustees board president and finally the board vice president.

The succession policy was recommended by the Ohio Department Services Agency following an October review by the Office of Community Assistance.

The review made several suggestions that West said are recommended but not currently required.

In other action, the board approved a new policy for Head Start buses in the event of a school cancellation or early dismissal.

West said delays, cancellations or early dismissals for each Head Start center will correspond with the local school district.

"This policy change allows us to keep the Head Start centers open in the event of a delay. We are trying to avoid closing the centers in the event of a delay or early dismissal," West explained.

The board will meet again on Jan. 22 after the trustees approved the 2014 meeting schedule.

And the board met in executive session following the regular meeting to discuss personnel.
