MORRISTOWN - A 10-for-10 showing from the field in the final eight minutes propelled the Union Local boys basketball team to a 63-49 victory over visiting Edison on Tuesday after outscoring the Wildcats 23-13 in the final eight minutes.

The hosts had misfired on 30 of their first 44 attempts. Finally, for head coach Ben Porter and his still undefeated squad, they started to go in.

"It's a lot easier to play the game of basketball when your shots are dropping," Porter assessed. "We struggled through the first three quarters, but it's a credit to Edison because they played good defense and got after us."

Leading 40-38 after Edison's Austin Horan scored seconds into the fourth quarter that concluded a Wildcats' 10-2 run, Union Local went inside to its big men and Edison didn't have an answer.

Colton McKivitz, a 6-7, 260-pound junior, and David Paulick, a 6-4, 250-pound sophomore, combined for nine points as the Jets slowly, but surely, pulled away.

For the game, McKivitz led all scorers with 16 points. Gavin Porter added 10 markers and four assists, while Kaleb McDiffitt and Eric Dunfee evenly divided 18 tallies. McDiffitt finished with five assists and two steals, while Trenton Tipton charted four helpers and a pair of thefts.

Dylan Jones paced Edison with a dozen lightings. Austin Hyndman added 10. Erik Lee and Skylar Wilken evenly split 16.

The much taller Jets held a commanding, 45-36, advantage off the glass as Paulick landed game-tying honors with eight off the bench. T. Tipton had seven, while McKivitz pulled down five to along with a handful of blocks. Lee snagged eight boards and charted four steals for Edison. Wilken had six rebounds.

The Wildcats had three more turnovers at 17-14, with six of those coming in the third quarter when the game started to slip away.

The contest featured four deadlocks and seven lead changes, with five of those in the second quarter and the last when Gavin Porter made it 20-19 with a free throw with 3:08 left in the first half.

The Jets remain at home Friday when Indian Creek comes calling in another Buckeye 8 acid test. Edison welcomes Buckeye Local.
