RAYLAND - It fell apart early for Buckeye Local as visiting St. Clairsville ran up 15 unanswered points to close the first quarter with a 22-point lead and rolled on to a 69-36 final Monday.

It was 11-4 in favor of the Red Devils but when the first buzzer sounded the scoreboard read 26-4 as the Panthers struggled at both ends of the floor.

Buckeye Local shot a chilly 13 of 43. St. Clairsville garnered 14 steals as the Panthers committed 22 turnovers.

"Our girls played hard," said St. Clairsville head coach Alicia Freeman. "That is the only way they know how to play, they are very intense and they get after it.

"Once we saw an opening we did not let it close, we took advantage of our opportunities. I am excited for them.

"We have a big week with Bridgeport coming up on Wednesday. We will enjoy this tonight but tomorrow we get back to work and get ready for them."

Meanwhile Buckeye Local head coach Tom Figurski was looking for positives.

"When you look at it, if we take away that first quarter, maybe keep it a little bit closer, it is maybe a different game," he said. "We expended so much energy trying to catch up and recover from that. We can't do that and the girls know that but it is just translating that to the court.

"Defensively we are making adjustments and we are working now we just need to be better. Not only from a players perspective but from a coaches perspective."

Buckeye Local (0-4) was paced by Becky Zeroski with 13 points.

Alexis St. Clair led all scoring with 19 points and six rebounds. She was followed closely by Anna DeFilippo with 18 points and four steals. Seniors Lauren Figura and Brigee Mick both chipped in 10 points as the Red Devils made good on 23 of 58 from the floor and 18 of 23 from the foul line.

Buckeye Local travels to Brooke tonight while the Red Devils host 8-0 Bridgeport Wednesday.
