WASHINGTON, D.C. - Three local students are among those being nominated by U.S. Rep. David McKinley for acceptance into U.S. service academies.
McKinley, R-Wheeling, nominated 13 West Virginia students to United States service academies, including the U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Naval Academy, U.S Military Academy and the Merchant Marine Academy. Congressional nomination is the first step in a process toward appointment to a military academy.
"These 13 students exemplify the best our state has to offer," said McKinley. "Because of their hard work and commitment, they have earned this distinction. They have shown what type of leaders they will become. West Virginia continues to produce the next generation of leaders."
Nominations were based on the students' academic performance, extracurricular activities and personal recommendations.
