Permars Run Road to be closed for work

STEUBENVILLE - Permars Run Road (county Road 77), three-quarter of mile east of John Scott Highway, will be closed from 7 a.m. Wednesday through 5 p.m. Friday for a retaining wall replacement.

There will be no through traffic, according to the Jefferson County Engineer's Department.

Retail sales show increase in September

STEUBENVILLE - Retail sales in Jefferson County increased in September by more than 7 percent compared to the same period last year.

Jefferson County Treasurer Raymond M. Agresta said retail sales for September totaled nearly $62.36 million, generating $935,382 in piggyback sales tax revenue for the county. Agresta said piggyback sales tax receipts for September 2012 generated $868,646, based on retail sales of $57.9 million.

Retail sales in Jefferson County have averaged $63.5 million a month for the first nine months of 2013, compared to $60.2 million a month for all of 2012.
