Veterans park donation

December 3, 2013
The Herald-Star
The Upper Ohio Valley Chapter of ABATE donated $1,000 to the Brooke-Hancock County Veterans Memorial Park on Monday. The money is to be used next spring to paint the Vietnam-era plane located there. Ward 4 Councilman George Ash Sr. accepted the check on behalf of the park from Ron Haggerty, vice president of ABATE. Other members in attendance included, from left, Lyndon Sarge Allman, Ash, Haggerty, Jim Bissett, Paul Hooper, Pat Ensminger, Danielle VanCamp, Bryan Freeman and Steve Zdybicki. ABATE is an acronym for American Bikers Aimed Toward Education, which is a nonprofit organization set to dissolve both of its West Virginia chapters in 2014. According to Haggerty, any funds left over after this donation will go to Toys for Tots and Coats for Kids this season. - Shae Dalrymple
