STEUBENVILLE - Members of the city's beautification committee will be judging participants in the annual Christmas Light contest on Dec. 15-16.

Jacky Hines of the beautification committee is asking everyone who will be decorating their homes to have their holiday lights turned on from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. on both days, "to ensure that the judges have an opportunity to see them."

"If you want us to look at your house, please call the City Council clerk at (740) 283-6000, extension 2100, and give her your address to share with the committee. All homes with lights on will be judged, whether you call in or not," said Hines.

Hines said the lighting categories will include a winner from each of the city's six wards.

"We will also have a best theme (award) and one or more homes may be chosen for that award. An award will also be given for the mayor's choice, the committee's choice and the best of the best overall winner," said Hines.

"We already have the Christmas season weather here in Steubenville. So let's get those decorations out and create a festive mood in our community," Hines said.
