CHESTER - Upsets have been known to occur in stakes, and a 3-year-old gelding named Musicinthehouse registered one in Tuesday's $85,000 Sophomore Sprint Championship at Mountaineer Casino Racetrack and Resort.

Under jockey Albin Jimenez, Musicinthehouse took the lead in mid-stretch and drew off to an authoritative 1 -length score. Amidst a snow shower, Musicinthehouse clocked a final time of 1:11.64 for the six-furlong distance. He returned mutuels of $21.60, $8.60 and $5 across the board.

Black Hornet, favored in the post-time wagering at 8-5, came out of the starting gate awkwardly under jockey Justin Stein, and was the trailer in the eight-horse field for most of the race. Black Hornet rallied late to gain second. Go Duke Go, who held the lead turning for home, held on for third.

Maria A. Pinzon, who lives in Paris, Ky., bred, owns and trains Musicinthehouse.

"I can't be more happy," said Pinzon in the winner's circle. "This is just wonderful."

As recently as Sept. 27, Musicinthehouse competed for a claiming tag (finishing third) at Churchill Downs. In his race immediately prior to Tuesday's effort, he was a six-length winner at 5 furlongs in allowance company at Mountaineer.

Pinzon stables Musicinthehouse at Turfway Park in northern Kentucky. With his Sophomore Sprint win, his career resume now includes 16 starts, four wins, six placings and purse earnings of $110,063.

Romance Argentino, a marathon specialist, has clocked the fastest winning times for a quartet of distances at Mountaineer Racetrack this season: 2:01.37 for 1 3/16 miles on May 18; 2:09.12 for 1 miles on July 2; 3:05.75 for 1 miles on July 22; and 3:32.08 for two miles on Friday. All four efforts occurred in starter allowance company, the first two with Deshawn Parker aboard and the two most recent with Christian P. Pilares riding.

Romance Argentino is a 4-year-old gelding owned and trained by Eduardo Caramori. To date, Romance Argentino's career record includes 23 starts, 14 wins, a pair of placings and purse earnings totaling $138,378. Mountaineer plans to run a 2 1/8-mile starter allowance on Nov. 29, and a 2-mile starter allowance on Dec. 21 (which is closing night).

The $175.00 return by Divine Doris in the first race on Sunday marked the eighth time this season that a horse has returned $100 or more for a $2 win mutual at Mountaineer. The return for a $2 perfecta ticket in that race (involving Divine Doris and the second-place finisher, Leni's Joy, who was sent off at 13-1) was $1,745.40, a Mountaineer season high for that wager. And the subsequent two dollar daily double return (coupling Divine Doris with the winner of the second race, Northern Ransom, at 13-1) was a season high $2,250.40.

Beautiful Rainbows, a 10-year-old mare, made her 100th career start in Sunday's sixth race at Mountaineer. She finished second for a $5,000 claiming tag under jockey Albin Jimenez, missing victory by 1 lengths. Beautiful Rainbows made her career debut at age 2 at Churchill Downs on June 22, 2005.

Fifteen days later, she graduated from the maiden ranks at Churchill, and has won at least one race every year since then.

Beautiful Rainbows has raced at 12 tracks - Mountaineer, Churchill, Ellis Park, Keeneland, Louisiana Downs (where she was stakes-placed), Meadowlands, Monmouth Park, Oaklawn Park, Philadelphia Park, Prairie Meadows, Presque Isle Downs and Tampa Bay Downs. She has accumulated 21 career victories and 31 placings, and purse monies totaling $293,024. Beautiful Rainbows is owned by David and Jo Ellen Dunlap, and is trained by William N. Martin.
