Charles 'Bob' Swain

SWAIN, Charles R. "Bob," 87, of New Cumberland, passed away on Monday, November 11, 2013, at Valley Hospice North in Steubenville following a lengthy illness.

He was born on October 10, 1926, in Hollidays Cove to the late Samuel and Mary Cooper Swain.

In his childhood years, the Swains moved to New Cumberland where he later met his beloved wife, Eula J. Herron Swain, and started his own family.

He was a member of the Fairview Presbyterian Church in New Manchester and retired from Weirton Steel after 35 years. Bob worked as a 54" Strip Mill electrical foreman and was a member of the 25-Year Club. In 1978, Bob and Eula along with their son, Alan, relocated to Arizona. Bob was then employed as an electrician at Phoenix Baptist Hospital where he worked until 1987. He enjoyed many years of retirement and picked up woodworking as a hobby.

A 32nd-Degree Scottish Rite Mason, he belonged to the New Cumberland Masonic Lodge 22, Osiris Shrine in Wheeling, El Zariba in Arizona, as well as the Jesters.

In addition to his parents, one brother, James Swain, preceded him in death.

He leaves his wife, Eula J. Herron Swain, whom he married on April 15, 1949; his daughters, Sondra Brokaw and husband, Ray, of Newell, and Carol Farish and husband, Harper, of New Cumberland; his son, Alan Swain, and wife, Stacey, of Peoria, AZ; his grandchildren, Amy (Steve) Six, Holly (Doug) Siegel, Stacey (Ben) Locke, Trevor Swain and his fiancee Kelsey Saidi, and Tiffany Swain; and his great-grandchildren, Elisabeth and Karis Six and Madison and Mackenzie Locke. Also surviving is his brother, Samuel M. Swain and wife, Dorothy, of Florida; sisters, Fannie Ashcraft of Chester, and Joan Ward of Goose Creek, South Carolina; brother-in-law, Paul Herron and wife, Delores, of Beaver; sister-in-law, Orpha Swain of Doswell, Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.

Pastor Brian Robinson will conduct a memorial service on Saturday, November 16, at 11 a.m. at the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester where the family will be present to receive friends on Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. for a memorial visitation.
