STEUBENVILLE - No city manager yet.

The search for a new city manager will continue for at least another week after three candidates were interviewed Saturday.

Third Ward Councilman Greg Metcalf said Saturday evening the council will continue their evaluations of the three finalists and will meet in another week to make a decision.

When asked if an offer had been made to one of the candidates Metcalf repeated, "the council is continuing the evaluations."

Metcalf had said after the Tuesday night city council meeting he was hoping for a decision on the next city manager Saturday afternoon.

The three candidates arrived in Steubenville Friday afternoon for a tour of the community and a discussion with Mayor and Acting City Manager Domenick Mucci regarding the city operations and finances.

The council members and citizens committee started their interviews with the final three applicants at 9 a.m. Saturday.

The interviews continued until late Saturday afternoon.

"If we reach a consensus on the person we would like to hire as our new city manager we will make an announcement Saturday afternoon," Metcalf said following Tuesday's regular city council meeting.

"I am happy with the final three candidates. They come from a diverse background and have experience managing cities similar to our community. I believe any one of the three finalists can make a positive impact on our city," said Metcalf prior to the interviews.

This is the second attempt by the city council to fill the city manager position after former City Manager Cathy Davison resigned in May.

The first round of the search process failed to hire a manager after the final candidate turned down the Steubenville city manager job for a city manager position in Grand Junction, Kansas.

A second finalist told the city council he was dropping out of the running for the job to accept a city manager job in Portsmouth, Ohio.

The second round search process saw 34 people apply for the job.

According to the city charter, "Once the applicant is chosen, the said applicant must be on the job within 30 days from the date he or she is hired."

Under the terms of the charter Mucci will continue serving as acting city manager until someone is hired for the position.
