STEUBENVILLE - The city code enforcement program will accept car and small truck tires from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Sears Auto store at the Fort Steuben Mall.
According to Code Enforcement Officer Shawn Scott, the tire collection is free.
"This will be the only tire collection site in the city this fall. Please don't discard tires improperly. This is a free service and residents can just bring their tires to the mall Saturday and we will take them for proper disposal. We won't have drop off sites in the city this year. This will be the only dropoff site, so please stop at the mall with your old tires," stated Scott.
The JB Green Team also is hosting a paper and cardboard recycling event today through Nov. 15 at the Fort Steuben Mall.
JB Green Team Education Coordinator Louise Holliday said all proceeds from the paper and cardboard recycling will be distributed to area food pantries.
"The paper and cardboard recycling container will also be located behind the Sears Auto store. The container will be picked up at 2 p.m. on Nov. 15, so please bring your paper and cardboard recyclables by that day and time," said Holliday.
"We are asking residents to help the local food pantries by participating in this paper recycling event. We know people are working hard to make ends meet and we want to do our part," she added.
"We will be accepting newspapers, junk mail, cereal boxes, magazines and phone books. Please place the items in a box or paper bag or place the items loose in the bin. We don't take plastic bags in our paper bins. And please don't place paper plates, cups, candy wrappers or items soiled with food in the recycling bin," Holliday stressed.
Information about the recycling events is available by calling the JB Green Team office at (740) 266-6899 or at the website at www.jbgreenteam.org.
