Community 4 Cure events exceed goal

November 10, 2013
The Herald-Star

To the editor:

The Fort Steuben Mall is pleased to announce the final results for our mid-October Community 4 A Cure events that raised funds for the Women in Action Against Cancer Coalition. Because of the generous support of local businesses and community members, we were able to raise $5,350, exceeding our $5,000 goal.

Thank you everyone who helped us help the members of the community in their fight against cancer, especially our generous business partnerships: Weirton Medical Center, Trinity Health System, the Herald-Star, WCDK-FM, WOGH-FM, Kurt James Fun & Games, Abrilyn's NY Style Clothing, Country Crafts from the Heart, Gift Zone, Hibbett's Sports, J.C. Penney and the J.C. Penney Salon, King's Jewelry, Macy's, Mastercuts, Merle Norman, Perry's Glo-Putt, Quiznos, Regis Hair Salon, Repairs Plus, the Shoe Dept., Spencer Gifts, Texas Roadhouse, the Scent Shop, the Ville Restaurant, Verizon Wireless and We're Rolling Pretzel Co.

We'd also like to thank the following individuals for their generosity and enthusiasm during the events that week: all of the women of WIAACC, especially Judy Manfred, Karen Pethtel and Patti Diomedi; Kelli McCoy of Weirton Medical Center; Keith Murdock of Trinity Health System; Kurt Groman of Kurt James Fun & Games; Cindy Kotsch of the Herald-Star; Cindy Taylor of WCDK-FM; Nichole Patrina of WOGH-FM; Jefferson County Commissioner David Maple; Steubenville Police Officer Shawn Scott; Mike Cusick from King's Jewelry; Meaghan Welch of Hibbett Sports; Lou Petrozzi of the Fort Steuben Mall; Ann Kaniecki, Lisa Valuska and Gina Pierro of Merle Norman; Jami Montgomery and Christina James of J.C. Penney Salon; and MariLee Stinespring and David McGinnis of Regis Salon.

Thank you also to the individuals who came out to support these events in any way possible, including those who shaved their heads or cut their hair for Locks of Love, those who visited our Fort Steuben Mall restaurants during donation night, those who came out in support of WIAACC at its annual wreath ceremony, those who had a fun time dunking local personalities in the Kurt James Fun & Games dunk tank, those who put teams together for the mini-golf scramble and those who walked in our poker run/5k. We also thank those individuals who anonymously left cash donations for WIAACC during the week.

All of these people and businesses played a huge part in surpassing our goal. We are excited to do it again next year and look forward to an even more successful week in 2014, which is scheduled for Oct. 13- 18.
