WEIRTON - The city's zoning board of appeals on Tuesday approved a request for a variance allowing Prestige Pawn Shop to display four wall signs on its building rather than just one.

The zoning ordinance permits a maximum of one wall sign per street frontage and one square foot of wall signage per linear foot of street frontage.

Prestige Pawn Shop co-owner Curtis Lehman explained to zoning board members that one sign displayed as permitted on the store front at 1306 Potomac Drive is not visible enough from the road. He requested a variance of three wall signs to allow a total of four and a variance of 20 square feet to allow 160 square feet of total signage.

Members of the zoning board approved the variances unanimously.
