FUS women's soccer wins

CRESSON, Pa. - The Franciscan Unviersity of Steubenville women's soccer team qualified for postseason play for the first time since the school restarted athletics and garnered the best record in school history (11-7) with a 2-0 victory at Mount Aloysius College Tuesday.

"I'm just really proud of the girls," head coach Clare McBane said.

Ashley Ruttencutter scored first via a Lauren Stearman pass and Julie Cocozza found the net thanks to a Jordan Byrley offering.

The win crossed one goal off the list for FUS.

"I just couldn't be more proud of them for setting their eyes on a goal ahead of them and then achieving it," McBane said.

The Barons will play Pitt-Greensburg on Saturday in the first round of the AMCC playoffs. The location depends on the outcome of Greensburg's final game with LaRoche College. A win means FUS will hit the road. A loss means FUS will host.

FUS men's soccer loses

CRESSON, Pa. - The Franciscan Unviersity of Steubenville men's soccer team missed postseason play after a 2-1 loss at Mount Aloysius College Tuesday.

Sophomore midfielder John Imbimbo converted a penalty kick for a 1-0 lead late in the first half.

FUS finished the season at 5-11.

"It's very exciting and it's a testament to what the guys were able to do," head coach Ward Rogers said. "If we continue to develop under the style of play we're using, we're really going to be a team to deal with next year in AMCC."
