Preparing for the bee

Plans are under way for the 2014 Jefferson-Harrison County Regional Spelling. This year’s bee will be held at 1 p.m. March 8 at Buckeye North Elementary School in Brilliant. The annual event is presented by the Herald-Star and coordinated by the educational service center. Sponsors include Eastern Gateway Community College, the Steubenville Rotary Club and Huntington Bank, with special consideration provided by the Ohio Lottery Commission. The winner of the bee will advance to the Scripps National Spelling Bee, which will be held in May in the Washington, D.C., area. Also helping to plan this school year’s bee are Toni Jean Dondzila of the Indian Creek Local School District; Susie Nolan of the Buckeye Local School District; Sue Ebie, who represents computer and online students; and Laura Sirilla of the Heart of Mary Home School Association. - Mark Miller
