STEUBENVILLE - The 20th annual Veterans Health Fair was held Saturday in the Steubenville High School commons area.

Schelley Brooks, executive director of Jefferson County Veterans Services, said they'd assisted some 440 veterans midway through the event, designed to offer several health services as well as acquaint participants with VA benefit programs.

"It's a preventive maintenance type thing," she said. "But it's also lifesaving. We've actually saved five peoples' lives" since the program's inception.

This year, veterans could get flu shots, eye screenings, have their blood pressure checked and get a dental screening for oral cancer. They also could consult a dietician, in addition to speaking with VA benefits representatives.

"We do this in conjunction with VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System and Steubenville City Schools," she said.
