This one was the 19th-annual Taste of Jefferson County to benefit the United Way of Jefferson County and its 19 member agencies. It was held Oct. 8 at St. Florian Hall in Wintersville.
The event raised more than $10,000 toward the campaign goal of $440,000 and attracted about 300 people sampling food from a variety of restaurants, bakeries and caterers all over Jefferson County, according to Beth Rupert-Warren, its executive director.

The theme of the event chaired by Jodi Scheetz was "Gems & Jeans" and featured food from the Dove Restaurant and Frank's, Texas Roadhouse, LA Pizza, Adena American Legion, Manfred's, Aubrey's, Figurski's Catering, Piergallini's Catering, Mama G's Catering, Froehlich's Classic Corner, Zalenski's Family Eatery and Pub, Downtown Bakery, Iggy's Pizza and Pasta, Applebee's, the Ville Restaurant, Naples, Dolce Pizzelles Cookie Co. and A Touch of Elegance.
By popular vote, Mama G's Catering (Matt Parise and his mom, Evelyn) won 2013 Best Food honors, and a Touch of Elegance was the winner of 2013 Best Desserts honors. It is owned by Stephanie Pethtel who gets help from her mom, Jo Ann Meyer.
While there were door prizes and mystery bag prizes and a gift card tree, there also was the treasure chest with some great items, including three jewelry pieces donated by Chip and Chris Warren of Discovery Jewelers in Wintersville.
The grand prize jewelry winner of a gorgeous diamond necklace was Emily Urich of Hammondsville, and 13-year-old Evan Naylor came away a repeat winner, taking home a pair of diamond earrings. Last year, the then 12-year-old was the grand prize winner of a fabulous diamond ring.
Talk about lucky.
