WINTERSVILLE - Two male individuals are dead from an apparent shooting incident that occurred early Saturday morning.

Preliminary reports late Saturday identified the victims as Michael Shepherd, 33, of 425 Eisenhower Road, and John Bowers, 70, of Evergreen Terrace.

The shooting also was confirmed by the Ohio State Highway Patrol and Jefferson County Sheriff Fred Abdalla Saturday.

"I was on the scene, and it happened (about) at 4:30 a.m. (Saturday)," said Abdalla, adding the incident occurred on Eisenhower Avenue in Wintersville. "Two male individuals are dead. Wintersville Police is handling it, along with the Ohio Bureau of Investigation."

Abdalla declined to give more details, as the case is under the jurisdiction of the Wintersville Police and still under investigation.

"It's a tragedy, and there are children involved," said the sheriff.

Efforts to contact Wintersville Police and Jefferson County Prosecutor Jane Hanlin concerning the incident were unsuccessful Saturday. The state patrol also declined to give any details Saturday of the incident other than there had been a shooting.
