Caregivers are angels in disguise

October 12, 2013
The Herald-Star

To the editor:

Thank you, Nicole Balakos, for the letter "Thanks to the caregivers" that appeared Sept 22.

My family and I were also blessed to have Valley Hospice with the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, husband and friend, Andrew "Andy" Fidak.

The staff and volunteers, I believe, are angels in disguise. They, from the very first day, were the warmest, most compassionate, most caring people I had ever met. From the social workers to the nurses, to the bereavement team and volunteers.

They are truly all unsung heroes. You never feel alone knowing that they are just a phone call away and always there to assist in a state of crisis. We also were never afraid to leave our loved one alone because we knew he was in the best hands.

Thanks to all of you and especially to the bereavement team. You truly are the best. Having you at the time when your loved one is gone to talk, support and care for you means more than anyone could ever know. Grief is a long process with many different stages and to have your team there to help us, the loved ones left behind, is such a gift.

I know my family and I, even though we only had all of you for a short time, will be forever grateful to all of you. God bless you all. I know our dad would say to all of you, "job well done."
