County road to remain closed

WINTERSVILLE -Fernwood-Bloomingdale Road (county Road 26) will remain closed through 5 p.m. on Tuesday in a section one-half mile west of county Road 34 for a contracted slip-repair project, the Jefferson County Engineer's Department reported.

Work was scheduled to be completed Friday but was extended.

There is no through traffic.

Voter registration deadline nears

STEUBENVILLE - Monday is the deadline to register to vote in the Nov. 5 general election.

Voter registration forms are available at the county board of elections office, 117 N. Third St., public libraries, public high schools or vocational schools, bureau of motor vehicles, county treasurer's office or any agency that provides public assistance or disability programs.

The county board of elections office will be open until 9 p.m. on Monday.

Buckeye Local school board to meet Friday

DILLONVALE - The Buckeye Local school board will meet in special session at 8 a.m. Friday at the central office to discuss personnel issues, officials said.

High school plans electronic recycling

STEUBENVILLE - Steubenville High School will hold an electronic recycling event starting Monday and continuing through Oct. 11 at the Indoor Athletic Facility on North Third Street adjacent to the high school.

Steubenville High School Key Club adviser Ross Ivkovich said the electronic recycling will operate from 9 a.m. to noon and from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Oct. 10 and from 9 a.m. to noon on Oct. 11.

"Cell phones will also be recycled, and all proceeds from the week-long event will benefit the high school Key Club. All products collected will be recycled to make sand, marble and synthetic wood," said Ivkovich.

Information about the electronic recycling event is available by calling Ivkovich at the high school at (740) 282-9741.

Weirton museum has new hours

WEIRTON - The Weirton Area Museum and Cultural Center has new hours of operation.

The museum will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Individuals and groups wishing to tour the museum outside of these hours should contact Dennis Jones at (304) 479-7266 for an appointment.
