Prison sentence ordered in drug case

STEUBENVILLE - Victoia D. Webb, 26, of Apartment 55, 901 Bank St., Toronto, was sentenced to three years in prison on Thursday by Jefferson County Common Pleas Judge David Henderson after pleading guilty to drug charges.

Webb was one of several people arrested during a drug raid at Whispering Hills apartment complex in May.

She pleaded guilty to three counts of drug possession and single counts of aggravated drug trafficking, with a juvenile specification, tampering with evidence, unlawful possession of a dangerous ordinance and endangering children.

Henderson also ordered Webb to forfeit $1,200 in cash, three firearms and a vehicle to the Toronto Police Department.

Brooke PSD board to meet Wednesday

WELLSBURG - The Brooke County Public Service District board will meet at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday to discuss construction projects.

The board will meet at its office at 711 Charles St.

Scarecrows on the Square Festival set

CARROLLTON - Scarecrows on the Square Festival will be held Sept. 28 in the village.

Festival organizers are looking for crafters of all types of scarecrows, with categories including family, political, classroom, business and organizations.

Also, crafters with various items to sell and food vendors are being sought.

The location of the festival will be in the square where the Carroll County Courthouse, McCook house/historical society, businesses and a restaurant are located.

There is a $5 fee to enter due by Sept. 27. Send the fee to Scarecrows, P.O. Box 505, Carrollton, OH 44615. Make checks payable to CRBA.

Forms also can be picked up at Ashton's 5 and 10, Sweeney-Dodds Funeral Home, Carroll County Chamber of Commerce and CVB. Information can be obtained by calling (330) 627-0103.

Construction time for the scarecrows is between 10 a.m. and noon and judging will start at 12:30 p.m. on Sept. 28. The festival hours are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Community Yard Sale gets rescheduled

STEUBENVILLE - Due to the weather forecast, Eastern Gateway Community College's annual community yard sale is rescheduled for Sept. 28.

The sale occurs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the Jefferson County campus. The sale is set in the college's Sunset Boulevard parking lot. Admission is free.

Water outage planned Sunday in Weirton

WEIRTON - The Weirton Area Water Board has announced a planned water outage to take place in portions of the city's downtown on Sunday.

According to information provided by the board, water service will be off between noon and 8 p.m. in an area beginning at the 3300 blocks of Zeta Street, Orchard Street, West Street and Main Street and ending at Virginia Avenue.

Crews are replacing four broken valves in the city's water system.

Residents and businesses in the affected area are advised they may experience discolored water throughout Sunday and early Monday morning.

Customers are advised to refrain from washing laundry during this time.

Once water service is restored, the affected areas will be under a boil order, which will remain in effect until further notice.
