Event helps cancer center

To the editor:

The Spring Hills Ladies Golf League held its invitational, God Bless the USA, on Aug. 1 at Spring Hills Golf Course.

This year the league wanted to do something special. It was decided to give a donation to a local charity or agency. To do this we felt that if we were to offer hole sponsorships, it would enable us to give all the money collected to a cause.

We have 30 women who belong to our league, and we have a large number of them who have been diagnosed with cancer. We have five ladies who have been diagnosed with breast cancer, one who has been diagnosed with ovarian-uterine cancer and one with lung cancer. Because of these brave warriors, we wanted our first donation to be to the Tony Teramana Cancer Center. The sponsorship was successful and we were able to give a donation of $1,600 to the center.

We would like to thank the following sponsors for making it possible: Gilbert and Mary Arehart; Jerry Gast CLU Insurance and Financial Services Inc.; Trinity Health System; Howard Hanna Premier Real Estate Services Inc.; Russ Kuntz; Dr. Manuel Ballas; the Weirton Knights of Columbus; Spring Hills Ladies Golf League; Infinity Hair Stylists; Simmons-Hare family; Hare-Galbraith familiy; Cain Realty; Marsh Bellofram; Larry Pownall; Rob's Friendly Tavern; FedEx Ground CHFJ Enterprises Inc.; the Kindsvatter-Lucas-Peterson family; Dr. John and Theresa Metcalf; American Legion Post 33; Polish Athletic Club; American Legion Auxiliary; in memory of Kettlewells and Giammarcos; in memory of Mary and Brittany Anderson, Gery Anderson, Marvin Gosseye, Joe Hoiliday and Jim Teaff; American Legion Post 557; Sons of the American Legion; in memory of Bill Nurczyk by Ed Nurczyk; Choice Brands of Ohio; Iron City Distributing; and Lopresto's Market.

It was a privilege to be able to support our local cancer center that has given hope and treatment to our community.
