Man injured in tire cutting machine

STEUBENVILLE - A worker at Lasting Mulch, 320 N. Fifth St., was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital after the worker got his arm caught in a tire shredding machine Saturday afternoon, the city fire department reported.

The worker was suffering from severe trauma to his right arm when the fire department was called at 1:55 p.m. Saturday.

A medical helicopter landed at the North End ballfield to transport the unidentified worker to the Pittsburgh hospital.

Road work announced

The West Virginia Division of Highways has announced road work to be performed this week, pending suitable weather.

Petit Heights Road in Wellsburg will be closed from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. today through Friday through 5 p.m. on Sept. 25 while crews widen and pave it.

Crews in Weirton will install guardrails and stripe the new parking area for carpoolers near the Harmon Creek Exit of U.S. Route 22. Crews also will patch U.S. Route 22 and Cross Creek Road in Brooke County.

Crews in Hancock County will pave Arroyo-Congo Road, patch North Fork, Hudson Hill, Bell Hill and Chapman roads and ditch along Virginia Terrace and Florence Road.

Also, crews will mow along roads in the two counties.

Carroll County road to close for work

BERGHOLZ - The Carroll County Engineer's Department reported Colony Road (county Road 74), located north of Bergholz, will be closed for two weeks beginning Thursday for a culvert replacement.

The road will be closed about 100 feet south of the intersection with Ocelot Road (township Road 309).

Oktoberfest set Oct. 13 in Bergholz

BERGHOLZ - An Oktoberfest will be celebrated at the Bergholz Fire Station from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Oct. 13. Members of the Bergholz Ruritan are planning the event.

There will be a flea market, and crafters are invited. Lacy Law can be called at (740) 768-9192 or Andrea Allender at (740) 768-2523 for booth space.

There will be food, music and activities for children. A 50-50 fundraiser is being held, with the drawing that day.

A kid's dance will be held Oct. 11 and again on Nov. 15 at the Bergholz Fire Station from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Refreshments will be available, and the cost is $3.
