Man in custody in city stabbing death

STEUBENVILLE - A suspect is in custody in connection with a stabbing death overnight at the Cathedral Apartments, 416 S. Fifth St., City Police reported.

Police Chief William McCafferty said the suspect turned himself in at the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department. The chief said city officers then were notified. A detective took the suspect to the apartments, where the suspect pointed about the apartment where the incident occurred, the chief said. Police believe the stabbing occurred sometime overnight.

McCafferty said the victim was 40 years old. The name of the victim was not being released as of this morning, he said.

The suspect is 18 years old, the chief said.

This is the sixth murder in the city this year.
