Central wins quad match

STEUBENVILLE - Austin Meronoff shot a 1-over 37 Wednesday at Steubenville Country Club as the Catholic Central golf team shot 163 to defeat Steubenville (224), Buckeye Local (228) and Weir High (248).

Josh Merriman shot 40, Jason Bensur 41 and Mike Manfresca 45 for the Crusaders.

Kasey Peterson led Big Red with a 47. He was followed by a 54 by Isaiah Herring, a 57 by Isaiah Lee-Granatir and Gabrielle Peterson's 66.

Brennan Czuchran carded a 51 for the Panthers. Dan Duill shot 56, Josh Faldowski 59 and Austin Antill 62.

Tyler Warrick had a 51 for the Red Riders. Austin Paul-Orrechio shot 58, Joe Patterson 65 and Eric Winwood 74.

Brooke downs Wildcats

WELLSBURG - Logan Lojszczyk was the medalist with a 40 Wednesday at Highland Springs Golf Club as the Brooke golf team defeated Edison, 175-180.

Michael Petrosky and Trey Gilham each shot 43 and Noah Teaff a 49 for the Bruins.

Clay Woodward fired a 43 for the Wildcats. Ben Boyd shot 44, Jimmy Marsh 46 and Shane Pendleton a 47.

Wildcats stop Big Red

RICHMOND - The Edison girls soccer team defeated visiting Steubenville Big Red, 3-1, Wednesday.

"Whenever we play Edison we know its going to be a hard-fought game," said Big Red coach Jared Robinson. "They are a tough program.

"We got back to playing aggressive soccer but we had some mental lapses that Edison was able to capitalize on."

The Wildcats' goals were by Ashley Borsh, Kylie Long and Bethanie Bube, while keeper Katie Oinonen had three saves.

Loren Gray totaled nine saves for Big Red. Elayna Andres scored the goal.

"Our girls bounced back hard today after their result from Saturday, but unfortunately it just wasn't the result that we wanted," said Robinson. "I'm proud of the effort that we put forth today, if we keep playing and improving things will start to work out for us."

Creek defeats Red Knights

TORONTO - Adam Freshwater earned medalist honors with a 44 Wednesday at Dyer Country Club as the Indian Creek golf team defeated host Toronto, 185-200.

Also for the Redskins, Justin Dailey shot 46, Aaron Foldi 47 and Chris Riffee 48.

For the Red Knights, Will Newbold carded a 45, Sante Carducci 46, Nick Ighnat 54 and Parker Wright 55.

Brooke wins opener

WELLSBURG - The Brooke volleyball team defeated visiting Buckeye Local 25-18, 25-22, 25-17 Wednesday to win its season opener.

Kourtney Leonard totaled five kills, Isabella Preston nine points, two aces and four kills, Angela Staffileno six points, two aces, six blocks and 14 kills and Alexa Gerrard six points, four blocks and four kills.

Adrianna Bailey delivered 11 points and three aces, Courtney Elliott 12 digs and three points, Jenstzen Kowcheck four digs, Alivia Brown two kills and Emily Stuck nine points, four blocks, two aces and 20 assists.

The Bruins visit Oak Glen today for a tri-match with Beaver Local.

Bears down Huskies

NEW MANCHESTER - Gabi Lemley scored four goals Wednesday as the Oak Glen girls soccer team defeated visiting Harrison Central, 6-1.

Devon Temple added the other two goals for the Golden Bears (3-2).

Madison Kranis, Desi Davis and Mollie Williams has assists for Oak Glen. Casey Highfield had three saves and Erin Fields two.

Sara Waggoner scored for the Huskies. Gina Sadler totaled 13 saves.
