Brooke County Fair an area tradition

September 5, 2013
The Herald-Star

The summer days are quickly coming to an end, and soon the leaves will start to change as the autumn air becomes cooler.

In the Ohio Valley, that also means we are in full swing for another festival season.

The Brooke County Fair is among those local events that help to usher in the fall season while showcasing some of what makes our area so special. The fair begins Friday, and will take place all weekend at Brooke Hills Park with a variety games, food and entertainment available for everyone. We encourage local residents to take some time and check it out.

Traditional fair events, such as the annual butterfly release to kick off the festivities and the mud bogs and tractor pulls, are making their return, with newer attractions this year, including appearances by the Cogar Family Lumberjacks and Black Diamond Wrestling.

Radio-controlled planes and helicopters will fly through the sky, historical re-enactments will be held and many competitions will be held throughout the weekend, with residents facing off while showcasing their photography, baked goods, pets and the return of the primary school tug-of-war competition.

Several singers and musical groups from the Ohio Valley also will be on hand, and residents will get their chance to hit the stage with the Brooke County Fair Idol contest.

The Brooke County Fair is always a great community event with something for everyone, and we know this year will be no different.
