Road work announced

The West Virginia Division of Highways has announced minor road work to be performed next week, pending suitable weather.

Crews will install drains for a parking area being created for carpool and vanpool participants near the Harmon Creek exit of U.S. Route 22. The $159,854 project is expected to be completed Sept. 20.

Crews in Brooke County also will patch Cross Creek Road, install minor drainage structures along Blacks Hollow Lane and sweep U.S. Route 22.

Crews in Hancock County will patch Standish Mill, Shady Glen and Turkey Foot roads; Anderson and Okie lanes; Riggs and Gaston roads and Yvette Street; and ditch along Locust Hill Road.

Crews also will mow along many roads in both counties.

Sidewalk sale at the mall

STEUBENVILLE - The Fort Steuben Mall is holding its annual Labor Day Sidewalk Sale today through Monday.

Participating mall stores will set up tables and racks that will feature items offered at summer and back-to-school discounts.

Also this weekend, Piercing Pagoda is having a My Bead trunk show. All beads will be 30 percent off, plus purchasers will able to buy three and get one free. Everything else in Piercing Pagoda will be buy one and get one half off. Shoppers who spend $50 will receive a $25 coupon redeemable Sept. 11-19. Children's jewelry will be marked at 20 percent off.

Prevention, recovery meetings scheduled

STEUBENVILLE - A finance committee meeting of the Jefferson County Prevention and Recovery Board will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday at the board office, 524 Madison Ave.

A buildings and grounds committee meeting of the board is planned at noon on Sept. 10 at the board office.

Outage planned on Orchard Street

WEIRTON - The Weirton Area Water Board reports that from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday water service will be off in the 3700 block of Orchard Street so crews can replace a broken valve.

Residents of the area may experience discolored water throughout the day. Customers should refrain from washing laundry through Saturday to prevent rust from staining clothing. Following the outage, the area also will have a boil order in effect because of the loss of water pressure in the service lines.

Red Cross sets blood drives

WINTERSVILLE - The American Red Cross Jefferson County Chapter has scheduled blood drives during the Labor Day weekend.

Collections will be held at the chapter offices, 81 Talbot Drive, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday and at Eastern Gateway Community College from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Donors must be in generally good health and weigh at least 110 pounds to donate blood. Blood donors must also be 17 years old, with the exception of 16-year-olds who have parental permission. To make an appointment, visit or call (800) REDCROSS.
