Blue Dons win quad match

WEIRTON - Matthew Lyons grabbed medalist honors with a 1-over 37 Thursday at Williams Country Club as the Madonna golf team shot 157 to beat Harrison Cetnral (185), Edison (205) and Buckeye Local (220).

Michael Rogers shot 39, Nick Mazur 40 and Alex Colantonio and Anthony Basil each shot for the Dons.

Austin Kowalski led the Huskies with a 42. Bryce Walrath shot 45, Ian Saho and Jared Edwards each had 49.

For Edison, Clay Woodard shot 48, Jimmy Marsh 49, Ben Boyd 51 and Shane Pendleton 57.

For Buckeye Local, Eric Williams had a 50, Brennan Czuchran 51, Dan Duill 56 and Jake Savage 63.

Central tops Toronto

STEUBENVILLE - Three Steubenville Catholic Central players shot under par Thursday at Steubenville Country Club as the Crusaders defeated Toronto, 142-221.

Austin Meronoff was the medalist with his 3-under 33 and he was followed by Mike Manfresca and Nick Ivkovich, who each shot 35. Josh Merriman rounded out the total with his 39.

For Toronto, Ben Hlivko shot 49, Parker Wright 56, Will Newbold 57 and Nick Ighnat 59.

Hawks down Brooke

WHEELING - The University golf team shot 166 Thursday at Speidel Golf Course behind medalist Eric Wirth's 35 to defeat Brooke (166), Trinity Christian (201) and John Marshall (223).

For the Bruins, Trey Gilham shot 42, Logan Lojszczyk 43, Noah Teaff 48 and Michael Petrosky 50.

Edison beats Union Local

RICHMOND - The Edison volleyball team cruised past visiting Union Local 25-11, 25-18, 25-17 Thursday.

Caitlin Brenstuhl paced the win with 25 assists, 10 points and three kills. Maddie Williamson added 16 points and two digs, Mackenzie Berardinelli one dig, Kim Wilson six points and two aces, Alexis Gill five points and seven kills, Katelyn Pollock 12 kills, six points and three aces, Kalee Neal seven points and five digs and Cassady Jarvis eight kills.

Edison hosts Beaver Local at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Crusaders defeat Magnolia

STEUBENVILLE - The Catholic Central boys soccer team had an easy time with Magnolia Thursday at the Tony Recinella Soccer Field. The Crusaders scored four goals in each half for an 8-1 triumph.

Leo Herrmann had three first-half goals from Pat Hernon, Brady Bolger and Harold Rogers and John-Paul McNamara had the other, from Anthony Lamantia.

Magnolia scored in the first minute of the second half thanks to a penalty kick from Oscar Celedon.

Herrmann, from Lamantia and Rogers, scored twice in the second half. Rogers and Kevin Herrmann each scored unassisted goals.

Central goalkeepers John Bolster and Austin Fowkes combined for eight saves.

Magnolia keeper Tyler Kazlman had six saves. The Blue Eagles visit Oak Glen at 11 a.m. Saturday, while Central heads to Tyler Consolidated for a 1 p.m. Saturday contest.

Dons suffer first loss

WHEELING - The Linsly girls soccer team handed Weirton Madonna its first loss of the season, 4-0, Thursday.

Tessie Tokash had 17 saves for the Blue Dons.

Linsly received two goals from Leah Memmo and one each from Kaitlin Snyder and Maleha Kureishy.

Madonna (3-1) visits Tyler Consolidated at 11 a.m. Saturday.
