Chapel hosting annual sale

Wintersville Community Chapel, located at 27 Bantam Ridge Road, Wintersville, is having its semi-annual rummage and bake sale on Sept. 7 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

A hot lunch will be available.

Proceeds form the event go to support the missionary society and missionaries worldwide in addition to local food ministries.

Christ to hold lunch sales

Christ Episcopal Church at 1014 Main St., Wellsburg, will resume its monthly roast beef sandwich lunch sales Thursday.

The sale will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The cost is $6.50 for the lunches, which also include chips, beverage and slice of mandarin orange sheet cake. Individual sandwiches are $4.50 each.

Delivery to businesses and shut-ins is available by calling (304) 737-3432 after 8:30 a.m. that day.

Singer to perform at two churches

Sheldon Mencer, a missionary, evangelist, singer and writer of such songs as "Lead Me to the Rock," "Mercy River" and "Only God Knows," will be performing at two local churches next weekend.

Mencer will perform on Sept. 8 first at 10 a.m. at Marland Heights Community Church, 3900 Brightway, Weirton, and then at 11:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Steubenville, 334 Cedar Ave., Steubenville.

Indoor garage sale at church

St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, 604 Colliers Way, Weirton, across from Weirton Medical Center, will hold an indoor garage sale from 8 a.m. to noon on Sept. 7. Refreshments will be available.

Cup of Life Ministries to resume

Cup of Life Ministries will resume on Sept. 13 at the Marland Heights Community Church located at 3900 Bright Way, Weirton.

Doors will open at 6 p.m. with complimentary sandwiches, beverages and coffee and dessert. There also will be children's classes for ages pre-kindergarten through fourth grade.

The women's worship service begins at 7 p.m. with worship leaders Judi Baldwin and Angel Pevich. Bible teacher Tina Schoolcraft will address the topic "Be Still and Know That I Am God."

"Please feel free to come, relax and share food, music and the word with other like-minded women," a spokesperson said.

Mount Carmel to remember march

Mount Carmel Community Baptist Church, located at 708 N. Fifth St., Steubenville, will host a 50th anniversary celebration of the March on Washington beginning at 5 p.m. today.

Highlights will include the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have A Dream" inspirational speech as well as Mahalia Jackson's song and memorabilia from Washington, D.C.

The event is open to the public.

Smithfield UMW planning service

At a recent meeting of the Smithfield United Methodist Women held at Smithfield United Methodist Church, Lorrie Greene gave a report on missionaries stationed in Zambia, Ken and Sue Sawka, who are serving in Zambia.

Virginia Young presided at the meeting were plans were made for the UMW's Sunday service.

Members were reminded that the district meeting will be held Oct. 10 in Carrollton.

Sherry Matthews was in charge of devotions. Young presented a program on flowers, telling that the "master gardener" puts people in circumstances they need to be in.

Members will be collecting children's clothes; coats for all ages; household goods, but not mattresses; and shoes for a later donation.

The next meeting is Sept. 16. Members were reminded to save dimes for the November dimes collection.

Chicken barbecue today in Jewett

The 30th-annual Effie Stewart chicken barbecue will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Jewett United Methodist Church.

The menu is a half a chicken, baked potato, baked beans, cole slaw, drink and dessert. The cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children.

Annual show at Rayland church

Meadowbrook Church of God located at state Route 150, 2 miles west of Rayland, will host its seventh-annual car, truck, bike and antique equipment show on Sept. 8 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

It is open to all years and types of vehicles.

The entry fee is $5. Registration begins at 1 p.m. People's choice trophies will be awarded with dash plaques for the first 50 entrants. The outdoor service and awards ceremony will be held at 4:30 p.m.

There will be food and drinks available throughout the day. No alcohol is permitted on the premises. Music will be provided by Beacon Road.

Proceeds benefit community events and national and world missions.

Dinner today at Bloomingdale UMC

Bloomingdale United Methodist Church, located at 113 High St., Bloomingdale, will hold its annual spaghetti and meatballs dinner from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. today.

Cost is by donation. The church is located at 113 High St., Bloomingdale.

Retrouvaille of Youngstown, a peer ministry that helps troubled marriage relationships, will hold a weekend marriage workshop on Oct. 25-27 at the Villa Maria Educational and Spirituality Center, 2105 Evergreen Road, Pulaski, Pa.
