NEW ALEXANDRIA - The Buckeye Ruritans of New Alexandria are starting "A Path of Memories."

This is a project to create a path of memories in the cemetery for the community by paving it with special engraved bricks leading to the flag pole located at the top of the hill.

The bricks are $45 and engraved with a special memory. They will be placed in the cemetery path, with plans for landscaping.

The bricks can be imprinted with three lines of up to 15 characters each, including spaces. Checks can be made payable to the Buckeye Ruritan Club. For information, call Gretchen Yanssens at (740) 598-4212 or Joey Bell at (740) 598-0061.

The organization helps those who are physically unable to do it themselves. Members have constructed and erected handicap access ramps for several individuals who need them. They have installed doors, cleaned gutters and downspouts, mowed lawns, trimmed trees and performed a variety of other acts to improve the lifestyle of neighbors and to help beautify communities.

Flower boxes were constructed and maintained at the entrances of the village, and in the spring, members help clean trash from the roadways along state Route 151 and county Road 19.

Ruritans purchase and donate items for the military personnel serving overseas; donate trophies to the Jefferson County Fair; and hold an annual Halloween and Christmas party for children in and around the community. Christmas lights and American flags are erected at poles along state Route 151.

Meetings are held at the New Alexandria Grange Hall on the fourth Thursday of the month. Recruitment of new members is ongoing in the village and surrounding areas. For information, contact Don Brannon, (740) 598-4902; Bud Hyman, (740) 598-4437; Ralph Nickoson, 598-4317; or Don Roe, 598-4876.
