The Herald-Star

STALEY, Paul Dean, 83, of Rt.168, Georgetown, PA, left life on this earth to the eternal life in the arms of Jesus, his Savior, on Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013, in Brentwood, TN after a lengthy battle with many health issues.

Paul is survived by his bride of over 58 years, Vivian Geraldine "Jerry" Wright Staley; his son, Paul David Staley of Lodi, CA; daughter, Karen Ruth Staley of Brentwood, TN; and younger brother, Jack Staley of Georgetown, PA.

Paul was born June 22, 1930, and raised in New Cumberland, WV by his beloved parents Paul and Olive Davidson Staley. When drafted into the Army he served as a carpentry foreman in Korea.

Upon returning from active duty Paul met Jerry at a dance at the Old Rock Springs Park and after a short courtship were married May 12, 1956, at Paris Presbyterian Church.

Paul started out as a brick layer until he went to work for Weirton Steel. The last years of his career were spent in the research and development department of National Steel's Weirton Division where he took early retirement at age 55 after 35 years of service.

Paul's real love was riding his Ford tractor while taking care of the 50 acre family farm off of Swearingen Road. He also enjoyed boating, camping, travel and Western Square Dancing with the Peppy Promenaders. After retirement Paul and Jerry spent their winters in Hobe Sound, FL at Sea Breeze Mobile Manor which his parents had purchased in the 1970s.

Paul was a 32 Degree Master Mason in New Cumberland Lodge No.22 A.F. & A.M. having earned his 50-year pin.

Paul and Jerry were active members of Bethel United Methodist Church, Georgetown, PA.

Paul never met a stranger and on top of being a wonderful son, husband, father and colleague he was also a friend to all generously helping anyone in need. People consistently marveled at Paul's positive attitude, resilience, and fighting spirit he retained during the 16 years of countless health challenges. He was a true example of miracles and never giving up.

A little over a year ago Paul's daughter Karen moved he and Jerry to live near her in Brentwood, TN where Jerry will remain.

On Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, at 11 a.m., we will celebrate his life with a graveside service at Mill Creek Hill Cemetery, 1530 St. Rt 168, Georgetown, PA 15043 officiated by Pastor Ken Jacobs.

Following the brief service will be a luncheon at the Bethel United Methodist Church, 2137 Rt. 168, Georgetown, PA.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Bethel United Methodist Church.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Steel & Wolfe Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., Weirton, WV. www.steelandwolfe.com
