Jefferson County Fair parade winners announced

SMITHFIELD - The Jefferson County Fair's Grand Parade featured 20 4-H floats, marching units and horse units.

Loretta Finney announced the parade that began with grand marshal Gil Boring and his family being pulled in a wagon by Dave McElwain. Boy Scout Troop 3 of Steubenville served as color guard.

The Buckeye Local and Indian Creek Local marching bands performed in front of the announcer's stand, and the antique car club had cars ranging from the early 1940s through the '80s.

The Jefferson County Farm Bureau had a float depicting its cupcake wars contest held Thursday at the Rozsa Pavilion. Linda Chivers was the chairman of the float. Mary Ellen Grafton is chairman and walked alongside of the tractor-drawn float with the big cupcake design.The Free and Accepted Masons had a float as well.

Farmer Brown, who entertained children all week with his dog, Smudge, and his young barn animals, also took part in the parade carrying Smudge around his neck.

Parade winners are:

- Country Shamrocks, first; Friends and Neighbors, second; Dusty Boots, third; Windy Ridge, fourth; Sunrise Lads and Lassies, fifth; Purple Circle, sixth and honorable mention.

Float winners were:

- Liberty Gals and Guys, first; Backwoods Gang, second; Country Kids, third; Steubenville Spirits, fourth; Warren Ridge Wranglers, fifth; Buckeye Variety, sixth and honorable mention; Free Spirits, seventh and honorable mention; and Denim and Dust, eighth and honorable mention.

Horse units were:

- Barshoe Wranglers, first; Golden Horseshoe, second; Hearts for Horses, third; Boots and Britches, fourth; Country Classics, fifth; and Lassos and Lace, sixth and honorable mention.
