Ona L. Wallace

WALLACE, Ona L., 97, of Toronto, went to be with her Lord at her home Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013.

She was born Sept. 9, 1915, in Irondale, OH, the daughter of the late George and Martha Ellen Saltsman Johnston.

Ona's memberships include: Hill Top Presbyterian Church; Countryside Garden Club; Ohio State Nurses Association; Ohio State CRNA Association.

She was retired as a registered nurse and certified registered anesthetist from the Ohio Valley Hospital of Steubenville, and was a WW II veteran, serving her country as a captain in the U.S. Army 100th General Hospital Unit in France. She participated in the Battle of the Bulge during her service in Europe.

Ona was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Lester "Bus" Wallace, who passed away in 2005, and whom she married Oct. 2, 1945; brother, George Johnston Jr.; and sister, Marjorie Anderson.

She is survived by her son, Charles Wallace and wife, Linda of Dublin, OH; daughters, the Reverend Martha Wallace and husband, Dennis White of Depoe Bay, OR, and Sara Huntley and her husband, Alfred of Mercer, PA; grandchildren, Michael Heiserman and wife, Theda of Tavares, FL, and Julie Graham and husband, Jason of Grove City, PA; great-grandchildren, Kaitrin and Garrett Heiserman; Malachi and Michaela Graham.

Ona's friends and family will gather for visitation 6-8 p.m Monday, Aug. 19, at the Clarke Funeral Home, 302 Main St., Toronto.

A celebration service of Ona's life will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20, at the funeral home with the Reverend C. Robert Meyer officiating. Interment will follow at the Island Creek Cemetery, County Road 46, Toronto where there will be full military graveside honors by the Toronto American Legion.

Memorial contributions in memory of Ona may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 651G Lakeview Plaza Blvd., Worthington, OH 43085.
