Patrol to conduct OVI checkpoint

WINTERSVILLE - The Ohio State Highway Patrol reported it will conduct a drunk driving checkpoint Friday evening in Jefferson County.

The location of the checkpoint will be announced Friday morning.

Annual WHS reunion set for Saturday

WINTERSVILLE - The annual All-Wintersville High School Reunion will be held Saturday at Aladdin Land.

The event is a covered-dish lunch with the meal beginning at noon. Drinks will be provided, but those attending should bring their own table service.

"Come early and stay late so you can visit with old friends and classmates," a news release about the reunion reads.

A photographer will be at the reunion who will take class pictures at a cost of $25, and alumni will receive the pictures before they leave the reunion, according to organizers.

The Wintersville High School Class of 1948 will be honored guests this year.

Cross Creek trustees change meeting date

WINTERSVILLE - The Cross Creek Township trustees have changed their next board meeting to 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 3 due to the Labor Day holiday.

The meeting will be held at 251 Airport Road.

Child safety day to be held at Rent-A-Center

WEIRTON - A Weirton business is joining forces with some of the city's emergency responders to provide assistance in keeping area children safe.

The Rent-A-Center located in the Shop 'n Save Plaza on Penco Road will host a child safety day from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Friday.

The Weirton Fire Department will have its fire safety trailer on display to teach children how to escape from a house fire. The Hancock County Sheriff's Department will provide fingerprinting services for area children and Rent-A-Center employees will provide a cookout for those who attend.

Republican committee to meet Aug. 26

WELLSBURG - The Brooke County Republican Executive Committee will hold its regular monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 26 at the Brooke County Public Library.

The group's leaders said all interested Republicans and conservatives are welcome to attend.
